Knitting for radical self-care – Brandi Cheyenne Harper
“I design and write books on how to make knitwear handmade in animal and plant based fibers. You can find my knitting patterns published in collaboration with Purl Soho, A Verb for Keeping Warm, Vogue Knitting and Abrams Books. I love developing playful and social knitting activations for small groups and corporate events. I’ve worked with Etsy, West Elm, Better Homes and Gardens, and Country Living. I live in Brooklyn, but love to travel in-country and abroad.
Organic cotton and botanically dyed merinos, chunky and super bulky yarns are my favorites fibers to work with. It is beautiful the ways knitting can be infused with and informed by spices, clay, plants, and wood. And I think yarn is just a photogenic hottie. Through my work and writing, I promote rest, creativity, and nourishing the simple joys of every day life. Sipping a cup of hot tea, crying as a form of cathartic release, a 30-minute nap in the middle of the day. The simple precious things that help us tap into ourselves more fully and to connect more deeply with each other.”
