Knitting for radical self-care – Brandi Cheyenne Harper- a knitting expert, a must-have pattern book for modern knitters, with essays on self-care and sourcing creativity

There is no such thing as being kind of a knitter—the wobbly scarves and that oversized sweater you tried to shrink all count to. Each contribution that you make to the world through knitting is meaningful, but maybe you’ve slowed your commitment to this craft, or you can’t seem to find the time to be creative. There’s a lot to be distracted by, and the path forward isn’t always clear. Brandi Harper aims to bring those challenges to the forefront and help you unearth the immense benefits that knitting has to offer. In her debut book, Knitting for Radical Self-Care, Harper offers tips and suggestions for carving out time for creativity, alongside beautiful patterns to try yourself. The book includes ten original patterns inspired by revolutionary women of color, and Harper will speak to these women and their immense impact on her life and our world. The patterns include detailed instructions, alongside her original prose, all designed to inspire.

Knitting for radical self-care – Brandi Cheyenne Harper

“I design and write books on how to make knitwear handmade in animal and plant based fibers. You can find my knitting patterns published in collaboration with Purl Soho, A Verb for Keeping Warm, Vogue Knitting and Abrams Books. I love developing playful and social knitting activations for small groups and corporate events. I’ve worked with Etsy, West Elm, Better Homes and Gardens, and Country Living. I live in Brooklyn, but love to travel in-country and abroad.

Organic cotton and botanically dyed merinos, chunky and super bulky yarns are my favorites fibers to work with. It is beautiful the ways knitting can be infused with and informed by spices, clay, plants, and wood. And I think yarn is just a photogenic hottie. Through my work and writing, I promote rest, creativity, and nourishing the simple joys of every day life. Sipping a cup of hot tea, crying as a form of cathartic release, a 30-minute nap in the middle of the day. The simple precious things that help us tap into ourselves more fully and to connect more deeply with each other.”
