Zero Waste Patterns – Birgitta Helmersson
ZERO WASTE PATTERN CUTTING is a bit like a puzzle. It is a method of pattern drafting where you utilise a pre-determined length of fabric end to end by strategically planning your pattern pieces so that everything is used. We work with a PAPERLESS method which means that no printing of large pattern pieces is required. This means less wasted fabric, and paper! Instead of using full scale paper patterns, pattern pieces are instead drawn directly onto the fabric with the help of instructions and small templates. By using this method it is easier to work with different fabric widths and make simple design and fit changes to the pattern yourself.
All of our garments and sewing patterns use this method and are made and developed in-house in our studio/store in Malmö Sweden.
Based in Malmö Sweden, Birgitta Helmersson designs and develops sewing patterns and clothing exclusively using zero waste pattern cutting, which means no fabric is wasted in the cutting and sewing process. Small collections are designed and made in-house with a small team, using natural and re-purposed fabrics.
