Jacqueline Cieslak is a designer, teacher, and maker based in the US. Jacqui’s passion for the craft, her knitting and sewing expertise, and her inclusive, welcoming attitude to making coalesce in Embody, a capsule collection of wearable wardrobe staples that you’ll return to again and again.

Empowering makers to create clothes that honour their bodies is at the core of Jacqui’s designing practice, and this shines through in her debut book. Embody consists of three infinitely adaptable patterns — two knitting, one sewing — with bespoke instructions to create customised, perfectly fitted garments designed to be the foundation of any maker’s me-made wardrobe. With included variations resulting in as many as 25 unique pieces from the three cornerstone patterns, this book encourages makers to think of a pattern as the starting point for their own creativity — a skill that will change how they approach any given pattern.

Embody offers a perspective on making which centres versatility, minimalism, and sustainability, both in making and wearing handmade clothes. Along with patterns and styling tips, Jacqui shares insights from her years of teaching capsule wardrobe workshops that will be invaluable to makers at any stage of building their own handmade wardrobe. Celebrate your body and the art of making with Embody as your guide.

Embody – Jacqueline Cieslak by Pom Pom Press is a brilliant collection to knit & sew a capsule wardrobe. You can find all details for the knitting patterns on Ravelry.

Jacqueline Cieslak is a cultural anthropologist turned knitting pattern designer, teacher, and maker based in Charlottesville, Virginia (USA). Her training as an anthropologist shapes her work as a fiber artist, which she approaches with a critical, intersectional body positive agenda.

As a designer, she is deeply invested in creating patterns that are inclusive and accessible for a wide range of body types and abilities. She believes that creating clothes to fit your own body is a practice of self-care, and for those in the most marginalized bodies, it can be an act of resistance. Whatever their circumstances, she hopes her designs empower makers to realize they (and their bodies) are worthy of comfortable, well-fitted clothes that reflect their personal style.

Pom Pom Press was founded in 2012 as a quarterly magazine that would present knitting, crochet, and craft in the modern, beautiful, and meaningful way. Mainly conceived as a collection of patterns complemented by thoughtful writing and useful tutorials, Pom Pom also celebrates the joy of making, hopefully without taking it all too seriously!
