CESTA a case of baskets
CESTA makes these beautiful traditional Portuguese handmade reed baskets. Traditionally used by Portuguese women for shopping and carrying things, making them part of their cultural heritage. Their baskets are 100% ethical and 100% handmade, using only natural materials that do not harm our planet. The production process is completely manual: picking up the reed, drying and dyeing it; weaving the fabrics; cutting them and then sewing the baskets, one by one.
Maker is the first model, a “project basket” specially designed for all knitters, crocheters, and other makers out there. Maker is lined with burel, a traditional woven fabric. Made from 100% Portuguese wool, making it biodegradable, resistant, and waterproof.
Inside, there are several pockets to neatly store your needles, scissors and other notions, plus 3 nifty grommets to prevent your yarn from tangling (very helpful with colour work). The basket easily holds a bigger project like, but it makes a perfect travel companion as well! Just pop in your (note)book, snacks, small make up bag on one side and keep your WIP (work in progress) neatly stored in the other compartment.

They exist in all colours, designs and sizes imaginable and relives their childhood memories of long warm days at the beach, picnics and going to the local market with their Grandmas. They are part of their cultural heritage and finding one house in Portugal where there isn’t one of these is highly unlikely.
CESTA adapts them for new functionalities, prepares them for contemporary life, and gives them the love and attention they deserve.
