Midnatssol is a super soft, light, airy and full-bodied yarn- it is a blend of baby alpaca, mulesing-free merino and Lyocell/Tencel.

This yarn is a perfect alternative to mohair. it can be used in combination with other yarns to produce a thicker, fluffy yarn. It’s a fingering weight yarn, used double holds up  to approximately a worsted weight yarn, and using 4 strands is a chunky comparative to CaMaRose Snefnug.

Midnatssol is produced especially for CaMaRose at a family-owned Italian spinning mill. They work with utmost respect towards the environment and the welfare of animals.

The shades of Midnatssol are carefully chosen to be on trend, selected to match CaMaRose’s colours throughout the whole collection.

The 15 stunning colours in Midnatssol give you many opportunities combine and to be able to find the colour you are looking for
Recommended needle size is 3-4mm but can be used up to a 6mm.

It is recommended to HANDWASH the finished work, with wool detergent and leave it to dry flat.

Lyocell is a cellulose-based fibre, extracted from the cellulose of Eucalyptus wood and it is 100% biodegradable. It is processed within a closed-circuit system recognized by the European Union as safe and eco-sustainable. It is resistant, soft, silky and provide functionality that cannot be found in other cellulose fibers. The wood pulp – often from quick-growing and arid-zone friendly eucalyptus – is broken down by special amine solutions into semi-liquid paste. The paste is then ejected under pressure from a special spinneret nozzle to form threads; these are flexible and can be woven and manipulated just like natural fibers. Lyocell is the generic name, but you can find it labeled as Tencel on garments and other items such as bedding or curtains.
Lyocell is also strong and durable. It is the strongest cellulosic fiber when dry, even stronger than cotton or linen and is even stronger than cotton when wet. This means it can cope with many successful machine washes when woven into a fabric.

It has a smooth surface, with exceptional absorbency, creating a favorable environment for human skin, reducing skin problems in particularly sensitive subjects.
The fibre structure of the threads helps with moisture absorption to “create an optimal skin climate” say the makers. That means less pong, compared to synthetic fibers (which can have hundreds to thousands of times higher bacteria count than lyocell) and cotton. Synthetics do not absorb anything, and cotton only half the sweat of lyocell, say the inventors.

The other big plus is that lyocell can be recycled and will also happily and quickly biodegrade given the right conditions – just like the wood it is made from. It can either be burnt to produce energy or digested in sewage plants or your own backyard compost heap. Tests have shown that lyocell fabric will degrade completely in waste treatment plants over a period of just a few days.

Description

CaMaRose introduced her new base ‘Midnatssol’ autumn 2020. A great addition to the existing collection of CaMaRose, like the Snefnug and MĂ„nestrĂ„le. With the launch of CaMaRose Midnatssol, there now is a conscious, more animal friendly, alternative, to a mohair fibre based yarn.

“My name is Trine Bertelsen, I am a yarn wholesaler and the owner of CaMaRose.dk.

I founded my company in 2010, under the name Strikkebogen.dk. It started as a web shop, with my own designed patterns for babies and children.

In late 2010, I started importing yarn from Peru and started wholesaling to other shops.

I started with only the Pima cotton and the Lama cotton, but soon I began to expand the range and developed new qualities such as Lamatweed.

I have been designing and writing knitting & crochet patterns since 2008. Before founding my own business, I worked as a freelance knitwear designer. I worked for other wholesalers in Denmark and abroad, for weekly and knitting magazines. The experience I gained from working for others has been absolutely indispensable. I am convinced that designing and writing a good knitting or crochet pattern is something that takes many years to learn and it is something that keeps developing.

From the beginning of 2010, my 3 children have inspired me to design and are my daily sources of inspiration. This is the reason why I changed the name of my company from Strikkebogen to CaMaRose.dk, it is abbreviation of my 3 children’s names, Carl-Emil, Mathilde and Anna-Rose.

My mission, from the beginning, was to be able to sell good quality yarn under my own name, which is affordable and not available elsewhere. I chose to work with with suppliers who comply with ethical and environmental regulations with regards to animal welfare and the environment in the production of yarn. In addition to this I wanted to keep designing knitting and crochet patterns that are easily available and fashionable.
