The Maker’s Atelier – Frances Tobin

The Essential Collection is an extension of The Maker’s Atelier style. With this book, Frances has taken the styles that she has found indispensable over the years, and refined them for you.

It is a collection of interchangeable separates made up of three tops and three bottoms with one piece of outwear and a really useful accessory. The stretch version of the Ultimate Pencil Skirt is included in the pattern collection but all other styles are new. The clean lines and simple shapes mean each garment works beautifully in a wide range of fabrics and will flatter a broad range of sizes.

Each garment is given its own section in the book along with a full sized paper pattern. You will learn how the shape evolved and suggestions for how it can be worn. Instructions are given for how to make the garment in one form, followed by a section on how to vary this to create two or three very different garments. The projects will guide you through using different fabric types, illustrating how a garment can be changed through fabric selection.

This book will inspire you to not just to make what you see here but also to develop your own ideas, in the fabrics you like, creating a collection that’s unique to you and your style.

There are seven paper patterns included in the book in sizes ranging from 32”- 46” / 81-116 cm bust measurement.

Description

“Hello I’m Frances Tobin and I started The Maker’s Atelier because I love designing and making clothes. I was taught dressmaking by my mother, and it’s been my passion ever since. After training as a fashion and textiles designer, I went on to work for many leading brands in Italy, the US and the UK and I still make most of my own clothes.

The patterns I have created for The Maker’s Atelier are influenced by current fashion trends. I take the key shapes and refine them on the premise that the simplest shapes, in beautiful fabrics, make the most successful clothes.

Alongside the patterns you will find a selection of fabrics and haberdashery to assist you,  as well as a magazine to inspire you.”
