Sock Knitting Course 12, 19, 26 october
Our Sock Knitting Course will provide you with all the skills to finally cast on your first pair of socks and deal with challenges you’ll encounter on the way.
During this three-week course, you will cast on the Cuff Down Socks, a pattern designed by your teacher, Roos Vlaskamp (The Wooly One on Instagram). The pattern involves a heel flap, a much-used heel finishing technique you’ll find useful for your future sock explorations.
This course will teach you:
- How to cast on and cast off a sock
- To knit socks on circular needles using magic loop technique, or
- To knit socks on Double Pointed Needles (DPNs)
- The widely-used heel-flap technique
- To master the Kitchener Stitch for you cast-off
What skills will you need?
You don’t need to be an expert knitter for this course, however we ask that you are confident in your knitting. Over the course of the project you’ll have to do ribbing, increase, decrease and, possibly, correct your mistakes. If this sounds doable to you, please be welcome to join!
Materials included
The class fee does not include wool and needles. You’ll need circular needles that match your yarn, big enough to accommodate the Magic Loop, or double pointed needles.
During classes you will receive an additional 10% discount on all the materials needed for the workshop or project.*
The classes
The course consists of 3 classes with a duration of 1,5 to 2 hours each. The course is designed as a whole, meaning that the lessons cannot be booked individually.
The classes will take place on Saturday 12.09.2020, 19.09.2020 and 26.09.2020, from 11.00 – 13.00.
Due to Covid-19, we advise wearing a mask during the lesson. Your seat will be at an appropriate distance from other participants.

We have a 48 hour cancellation policy. Any cancellations that occur 48 hours or more before the scheduled workshop are eligible for a refund or (if possible) to be re-booked at no additional cost. / Wij hanteren een opzegtermijn van 48 uur. About your teacher
Roos Vlaskamp is a knitwear designer and archeologist based in The Hague. Her work is influenced by current fashion trends, which she skillfully combines with colourwork and texture. This combination makes for thoughtful patterns designed to wear and love for years to come.
Roos enjoys explaining both the basic and more advanced knitting techniques. Her strength lies in removing your fear of making mistakes, putting you at ease and encouraging you to explore personal unchartered knitting territories. Be in for a laugh and a boost of confidence and skill!
